Friday evening - Sister
Beat! Saturday evening
- Janie Womack with Julie Lowery Sister Beat, a six-member, all-women band, has been together a very short time. Originally formed as a three-piece ensemble, consisting of guitarist Mary Emelio, drummer Jody Echterling, and vocalist Cathy Nelson, to play for a fund raising concert in January of 2008 under the name Wing It, the band grew to four members that night. Bassist Amy Shestack sat in as the band played late into the evening. By the next rehearsal, Wing It had grown to six members, with the addition of guitarist Becky Mohr and bassist Vickie Poole, and changed its name to Sister Beat. Jamming on rock, blues, and original tunes, Sister Beat presents its love of all things music in a unique, funky and upbeat style. Born into a musical family, Janie Womack continues the tradition. Although her first love is singing, she’s also a self-taught guitarist. Janie's style is acoustic, her delivery straight & true, and her Texas-grown personality is a lot of fun. Janie is a former member of the ,Central Pennsylvania Womyn’s Chorus, the a cappella quartet Three J’s and a C, and local band t.l.o. stone soup. She plays the local coffeehouse circuit, as well as festivals and private events. Currently at work on her first full-length CD of original music, Janie recently released the 3-song disk, "Three Thirty-Three." Julie Lowery began to add her vocal talents to Janie's gigs in late 2005. It quickly became apparent that she’s a natural. A native of Lancaster County and former member of the Central PA Womyn's Chorus, Julie continues to join Janie at most performances. When these two join forces, their energy will send chills down your spine, and their different personalities and experiences serve as the perfect backdrop for humor. They’ll make you laugh – they’ll make you cry – and that’s what entertainment is all about! Women's Circle |
